An amalgamation of small, local, and inconsistent regional websites, Europe's leading film & television studio/distributor had no central online presence and identity, despite boasting the world's third largest film library.

Design a website that serves as the global premium showcase for all of the studio's content and provides enough features, flexibility, and customization for the international marketing team to leverage it as a core communication channel.

Design a website that serves as the global premium showcase for all of the studio's content and provides enough features, flexibility, and customization for the international marketing team to leverage it as a core communication channel.

Originally delivered a prototype of a website that didn't take into account the requirements of the international marketing department, the discovery phase allowed me to run point on exploring and establishing the feature & functionality needs of several internal teams, all while ensuring distributors and media were kept at the heart of the website experience.
Define
Growing exponentially in both stature and reputation, Studiocanal needed a way to connect with talent and distributors (especially in the US market) by showcasing the breadth of its activities and its world-class content library, while simultaneously enabling teams to craft communications and advance business objectives in a customizable way.




Ideate
After a competitive benchmark, a detailed content analysis, and input from all key marketing and publicity team stakeholders, I took the newly-established requirements and proposed a refreshed website structure and interface that matched users' established mental models of modern entertainment platforms — a clean, curated, content-driven approach.
Prototype
Already in a high-fidelity stage, a new prototype was developed in WordPress with a redefined information architecture and global navigation system meant to simplify the site's structure for both distributors and media.

Despite delays to bringing the minimum viable product to fruition and a treasure trove of trials and tribulations due to the website's dependency on external databases with complex information architectures, the brand new Studiocanal international website launched successfully in early 2021, and what quickly followed by localized versions in key territories including the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

From no official online presence internationally to a website generating tens of thousands of unique visitors per month organically and a quarter of that traffic being US-based, the project was a success and our objectives met. Studiocanal now had a premium platform to showcase its premium content offering.
